No Name Camp, Livingstone / ‘Mosi – O - Tunya City’

Livingstone / ‘Mosi – O - Tunya City’ is a tourist destination for many nationals locals and foreign and is on the world map because of the Victoria Falls, an attractive natural wonder. The economy of the city is largely dependant on tourism, for instance the Sun International represents one of the largest investments ever in Zambian tourism infrastructure, several other tourism infrastructure continue to grow in every direction, opportunities in adventure tourism, water sports, boat cruise, game driving, visits to cultural heritage sites, museums, artistic spots and centres and numerous lodges and guest houses available for all taste of comfort and pleasure and camp sites including No Name Camp the host for Insakartists 2010. In short the city has endless entertainment. It is also an international gateway to the southern neighbours of Zambia , Namibia, Botswana and Zimbabwe.

Insaka International Artist Trust will be holding the 5th International Artists Workshop / Insakartists 2010 in this southern tourist developing city of Livingstone or ‘Mosi – O – Tunya City’, it means ‘The Smoke That Thunders’ in Lozi language widely spoken in the area, it refers to the world famous Falls known as Victoria. ‘Mosi – O – Tunya City’ exist only in the context of the workshop concept of Environment , Culture and Art. ‘Mosi – O – Tunya City’ expresses the artistic nomenclatural desire to return the heritage of the city. It is journey of honouring the historical interpretation of wonder of nature by local people before the arrival of foreign influence, it embodies the notion of decolonizing the spirit of the falls using artistic license and lenses, hence the theme for Insakartists 2010 is simply, “Art, Culture and Environment .” Insakartists Trust recognizes the importance of preserving heritage significance of Zambian culture from a historical perspective packaged in modern contemporary art expression using natural and conventional materials.

The Workshop will bring together 15 Zambian artists and 10 International Artists.
The workshop will be held from 22nd April 2010 to 4th May 2010 and exhibition will be held on the 6th May, 2010 at the Livingstone Museum.

- Submit 10 digital images of your current practice and art work done in the past two years.
- 15 minute video performance
- CV and work experience along with statement of intent (not less than 200 words)
- Statement of intent
- Passport sized picture
- Referees / Letter of recommendation
