Dr. Rasheed Araeen is one of the most respected and reputable authors and theoreticians in the field of postcolonialism and the visual arts. He has been awarded three honorary doctorates from, respectively, the University of Southampton; the University of East London, and the University of Wolverhampton. He is the founder editor of the prestigious journal Third Text, which deals particularly with cultural debates around the relationship between the so-called first and third worlds. He is well known among African scholars for his keen interest in Africa and African cultural debates. Jozi and the (M)other City is a project curated by Carine Zaayman. It features the work of eight artists and two writers. They are Ralph Borland, Nicola Grobler, Stephen Hobbs, Svea Josephy, Marcus Neustetter, Sean O'Toole, Nathaniel Stern, Johan Thom, James Webb, and Carine Zaayman. JAMC focuses on gaining a deeper understanding of the cities Johannesburg and Cape Town through the production of artworks and writing, as well as providing a discussion forum online.
